Gordon Carmicheal Reserve Walkway

Gordon Carmicheal Reserve is located between Bethlehem and Brookfield and has a mixture of boardwalk and gravel tracks. The walk is flat and very easy. There is no shortage of bird life and native plants to see. A small pond is home to many ducks, swans and pukehos. A good size playground, toilet facilities, drinking fountain, picnic tables and BBQs are located right next to the carpark and playground.

This walk is a very easy and relaxing walk along the waters edge of inner Tauranga Harbour and has magnificent views of Mount Maunganui. The path is paved so it’s suitable to take a push scooter. Both parks at either end of the walkway have playgrounds, toilet facilities, picnic areas and BBQs.

Mauao Base Track

The easiest walk at the Mount is the Base Track which is a gentle walk on a light gravel surface. It has a nice wide walkway with the sea on one side of you the whole way around. In April 2017, the base track around Mauao was damaged during ex-Cyclone Debbie. A landslip caused part of the track to remain closed but box steps have been built up and around the slip site enabling walkers to complete the loop around Mauao. Unfortunately, this mean prams will not be able to do the full loop but can walk halfway and then turn around. The slip is on the Pilot Bay side so start on the Mount Main Beach side to enjoy more of the walk.

Papamoa Reserve Walkway

Through Papamoa, the Papamoa Reserve walkways follow the storm water reserves. These light gravel pathways are easily accessible and are great for walking and cycling. A peaceful and gentle walkway provides a link from Pacific View Road to Wairakei Reserve. There are many sights along the way, including little bridges to cross, ducks, a lake and large weeping willows.
